Current Eligibility Requirements

You must be a citizen of the United States or a lawfully admitted alien, eighteen (18) years of age or older and a legal resident of Texas.

       Steps for Getting Your         Salesperson License

Step #1:  Take the Real Estate Courses offered at Hall Real Estate Institute.
 
TEXAS REAL ESTATE LICENSE ACT: Requires applicants for the salesperson's license to complete 14 semester (210 classroom) hours of real estate or related courses.  Of the 14 semester (210 classroom) hours,  10 semester (150 classroom) hours must be in CORE real estate courses. These CORE courses must include:

Principles 101 (30 classroom hours)

Principles 102 (30 classroom hours)
bullet
Law of Contracts (30 classroom hours)
bullet
Law of Agency (30 classroom hours)
bullet
Core Real Estate course (30 classroom hours)
bullet
Another four semester (60 classroom) hours in core courses or in related courses acceptable to the Texas Real Estate Commission

We offer these additional 30 hour Core courses to complete the education requirements:

Real Estate Appraisal

Property Management

Marketing

Fair Housing and Anti-discrimination are included in our Principles 101 & 102 courses. 
If you have some college, you may only have to take the CORE courses.  If you do not have any college, then you will have to complete the required CORE courses and an additional 4 semester (60 classroom) hours in Elective Core Classes or  related courses acceptable to TREC.

 

Step #2:  Send a copy of your transcript and/or copies of your certificates, with an evaluation form and $30 to the Texas Real Estate Commission.

This must be done before making an application for licensing. Applicants for a salesperson license can apply without a sponsoring broker and would be issued an inactive license. After obtaining a sponsoring broker, an active license would be issued. Students may enroll in Hall Real Estate courses before that assessment is made.
Step #3:  After you have completed all of your real estate education requirements, send the application for inactive salesman to the Texas Real Estate Commission or make your application online.

Once TREC approves your application, you will receive a Candidate Information Brochure (CIB).  This is required to take the examination.

Step #4: Take and pass the examination for the salesperson license.  

The examination has 2 parts:

1)  National Portion (105 minutes), and

2)  State Portion (45 minutes)

Step #5:  Find a Real Estate Broker to be your sponsoring broker.  Send the sponsorship form into TREC.
